Born in Philadelphia, raised in the Midwest, Chris found desire and ambition to pursue the mysteries of music early in life. At age 3, his parents say he could be found on the couch, clothed or unclothed, singing and strumming his guitar. “The River Boat Song,” was his first solo single. Lessons ensued at age 10. Chris found the mysteries of music were not satisfied in mere mimicry of other artists, create it he must. And so, it began.
Since middle school age, he has walked the cavernous halls of harmony and melody acquiring various colors and textures for his palette to create music. Since the mid 90’s Chris has been a professional writer and performer, releasing over a dozen albums with various bands of various genre, energy and style. For the past 18 years Chris has performed four to six nights a week as a solo artist, three hour sets, no breaks. The past 7 years, between songs, Chris has been offering improvisational instrumentals, creating vast sound scapes particular to the unique vibe of the specific environment he is performing. No two nights are the same. He plays the room, surfing the energies like a wave… a unique experience every time.
When asked what his favorite reactions to his music have been over the years, he recalls two. “Man, I thought you were the radio,” the music was just so, people thought it was the overhead. “So many play music, you MAKE music.”
“We don’t save lives, we save souls.” -Maestro Leonardo Vordoni, La Boheme. Music can be for the ears, for background, a life giving atmosphere, and I’m always grateful to provide that when needed. Music can also be for the soul. That is my heaven. When a unique space is created, by intention or by happenstance, where an artist can, in the moment, discover what is in their soul, and moves their soul, brings that to fruition and in that process might move the souls of others. Music. What a gift.
Thank you very much for considering me to be trusted with being a part of your special venue and the precious souls who enter it. - Chris Saub
